Hello, i am Dr Parnika, Joining the IAP-recognized Neonatology Fellowship at Deep
Hospital in 2023 plays a pivotal role in my pediatric career. From the very first
week, I was exposed to a wide range of neonatal cases, including extremely
preterm infants, birth asphyxia, neonatal sepsis, and complex congenital
anomalies.
The hospital has a Level III NICU, which meant hands-on exposure to advanced
interventions like:
- • Mechanical ventilation (volume-targeted, pressure control, and HFOV)
- • CPAP and HFNC management
- • Surfactant administration
- • Central line insertions, umbilical catheterizations
- • Exchange transfusions and therapeutic hypothermia
Under the guidance of Dr. Pradeep Sharma and the neonatology team including Dr
Anisha and Dr Kanchan learning was structured yet flexible whether during bedside
rounds, echo sessions, or seminars. Great inputs were provided by Dr Baldeep
Singh being Director of institute. Environment was professional yet friendly.
Interdepartmental coordination was easy.
There was also significant involvement in:
- • ROP screening and laser coordination
- • Neonatal cranial ultrasound and functional echocardiography
- • NICU infection control and antibiotic stewardship
- • Parenteral nutrition planning and growth monitoring
What stood out was the volume of cases and the autonomy granted progressively—you
do, under supervision. The nursing
team is NICU-trained.
We also had weekly academic sessions, journal clubs, and protocol discussions.
There was encouragement to present cases
in regional conferences.
Of course, being in a private setup, research and opd exposure is limited
compared to a medical college, but the
clinical learning and confidence in Neonatal care were unparalleled.
